Center for Molecular Medicine

COBRE in Stem & Progenitor Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine

NIH/NIGMS-sponsored COBRE in Stem & Progenitor Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (NIH P30GM106391)

This Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (DM Wojchowski, Director and Principal Investigator) focuses on stem and progenitor cell biology in regenerative contexts. An overall goal is to advance an understanding of key molecular mechanisms that govern stem and progenitor cell renewal, lineage determination, and directed differentiation.

Research projects also each take aim at therapeutic goals:

Dr. Thomas Gridley is characterizing the role of Notch signaling in a novel skeletal myopathy model.

Dr. Kevin Mills has developed novel approaches to discover and characterize chromosomal fragility in cancer contexts

Dr. Leif Oxburgh is working to characterize a novel renal progenitor cell pools with potential regenerative properties

Dr. Clifford Rosen is applying metabolomic approaches to define key molecular regulators of bone and adipocyte formation (including insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2)

Dr. Pradeep Sathyanarayana is investigating the role of novel anti-adhesion, migration factors and unique STAT5 regulated microRNA profiles in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Dr. Don Wojchowski has discovered novel regulators of erythropoiesis that point to new in-roads for anti-anemia therapies

Dr. Jeong Yoon is investigating cristins/r-spondins as novel wnt co-factors with therapeutic activities (e.g. bone & muscle development)

Our Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine Center is further reinforced by strong External and Internal Advisory Steering Committees, and by four expert Core facilities.
