An Investment in the future of healthcare

As Director of Development for 18 years, Peter Barnard was the face of philanthropy at MMC, tirelessly raising money to support the hospital. He and his wife, Dana, were themselves strong supporters of the hospital on many fronts. Pete and Dana realized that research is the foundation for the future of healthcare, and they made MMCRI one of their top philanthropic priorities.
They found many ways - creating a bequest in their will, establishing an endowed fund to provide the research program with a steady stream of annual income, and utilizing life income vehicles such as MMC's Pooled Life Income Fund which provides income for life in exchange for their donation.
Sadly, Pete died a few years ago. Dana says he would want to be remembered as a supporter of research. "Pete was so impressed that such world-class research was taking place right here in our backyard, at our community hospital" she remembers. "This work is so vital to finding cures and treatments we felt compelled to become involved."
Dana continues to be one of our biggest champions. Recently, she made a significant gift to the research program, in the form of a Charitable Gift Annuity that provides income for life in exchange for her donation. And she has been a wonderful spokesperson for the cause, encouraging others to consider supporting the important studies occurring at MMC.
An investment in medical research is an investment in the healthcare of future generations. What a wonderful legacy for Pete and Dana Barnard.
