BACKGROUND
In August 2005, the National Institutes of Health announced its intention to transition to electronic submission of NIH grant applications though the Grants.gov portal. The transition began in December 2005 and will continue through the end of 2007 when it is expected that all NIH grants will be submitted electronically. A revised transition timeline was announced by NIH on February 7, 2006 pushing back the previous electronic R01 submission deadline to February 1, 2007.
The Office of Research Administration is preparing for this transition to electronic NIH application submission and will use this website to keep MMC’s research community informed of any updates to the NIH application system and associated procedures.
OVERVIEW OF THE GRANTS.GOV SUBMISSION PROCESS
Individual MMC investigators can go directly to Grants.gov or NIH, download an application package and complete it. At least ten (10) working days prior to the submission deadline, the face page and draft abstract of the project must be sent electronically to the Office of Research Administration (libbys@mmc.org) for routing for internal administrative review and approvals prior to its electronic submission to the funding agency.
The complete Grants.gov application package must be sent to libbys@mmc.org within three (3) working days of the submission deadline at which time the application will be reviewed for completeness and forwarded to MMC’s institutional official for submission to the funding agency. Individual investigators cannot submit their applications directly to any funding agency.
