Program Description
Interdisciplinary Progam in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology

This cooperative program is administered through the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology at the University of Maine, Orono. All doctoral students in this program are expected to be familiar with general aspects of the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, and to develop an extensive knowledge of their thesis research area. Students are expected to carry out a research project leading to original findings, publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and to write a thesis describing the work.

Application requirements: A strong applicant will have a undergraduate degree in the biological sciences, with an outstanding academic record and strong GRE scores. The general GRE test should be taken, although subject test is not required. Evaluation of admission will also include considerations of the motivation and career goals of the individuals, research experience, and the strength of recommendations.
