Dr. Carol Ewan Whyte graduated from the Epidemiology Research Unit of the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, in 2006, with a PhD in Nutrition. Prior to coming to CORE in 2007, Dr. Ewan Whyte was involved in several large-scale longitudinal studies that addressed the consequences of early childhood malnutrition, infant feeding practices and low birth weight at term on child development. Her role at CORE is also as the Project Manager of several federally funded grants. Her research interests include prenatal and early life risk factors for childhood and adult diseases, health disparities among minority populations, and the use of informed decision making to improve dietary practices and health care utilization among the immigrant and native populations of Maine. Her research goals are to develop robust collaborative maternal, child health and minority health research programs within CORE, including appropriate intervention programs to reduce adverse pregnancy and early childhood outcomes among the populations of Maine. In 2008, Dr. Ewan Whyte was the recipient of a fellowship to the Summer Institute in Informed Patient Choice (Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice) and was the first author of the presentation that won the prestigious Innovations in Practice Management award at the Society for General Internal Medicine (SGIM) 31st annual conference.
