The Center for Clinical and Translational Research at the Maine Medical Center Research Institute (MMCRI) pursues clinical and translational research by combining a strong clinical base with superb scientific and experimental facilities in the setting of a world-class biomedical research institute. The goal is the advancement of clinical and translational research in order to improve patient care outcomes and the nation’s health.

A talented group of collaborative scientists under the leadership of Dr. Clifford Rosen address questions that are at the cutting edge of translating basic discovery into improved clinical patient outcomes. The mission is to 1) tackle the major chronic diseases that are the centerpiece of Maine Medical Center’s signature clinical and clinical research programs, 2) build and support a centralized research infrastructure, and 3) build and strengthen ties with the basic science research being performed at MMCRI.

We provide the opportunity and environment for translational research to flourish through mentoring from established investigators to junior scientists. We have established core facilities to enhance and facilitate translational research being performed by an assembled group of basic and clinical scientists at the MMCRI.  Laboratory analysis, research consultation and coordination of services offered by MMCRI core laboratories are available through Clinical and Translational Research Laboratory Services (CTRLS). 

The clinical and translational research community at MMCRI is a closely-linked, multi-disciplinary scientific enterprise in which basic, clinical and translational investigators plan and conduct studies as collaborators and scientific colleagues. With the tripod of research, education and patient care as the center of our endeavor, forging the interdisciplinary divide between clinical, translational, and basic research.
