Dr. Howell is the current Director of the Pancreaticobiliary Center at Maine Medical Center, and senior partner at the Portland Gastroenterology Center. Dr. Howell is also the Director of the Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Fellowship since its establishment 12 years ago. The fellowship emphasizes clinical research in interventional endoscopy including multicenter randomized trials, device research and development, new techniques of endoscopic treatment and outcomes research. Last year at the international meeting (DDW, New Orleans, LA ‑ May 19‑22) we presented six original projects including 3 of the 12 oral presentations selected in the field of pancreaticobiliary (ERCP) endoscopy.
In recognition of consistent contributions to this important field, the American Society of Gastrointestinal (ASGE) awarded Dr. Howell the Master Endoscopist award for 2002, a once per annum award selected from their international membership of nearly 10,000 physicians.
