Biosketch

Born and educated in Hong Kong, Dr. Chan earned his medical degree and completed internship, all at McGill University in Montreal.  He was trained in pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic and pediatric nephrology at Oregon and Columbia universities.  Faculty appointments followed at the University of Southern California, George Washington and Virginia Commonwealth universities, with sabbaticals at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1977 and 1988.  In 2002, he joined the faculty at the University of Vermont and Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland where he teaches, writes and conducts research.  He serves on two MMC committees to nurture clinical research.  His research projects on vitamins D and E in childhood kidney diseases and his training program have been funded by three RO1 and two T32 NIH grants.  He has published close to 400 scientific papers and several books including Kidney Electrolyte Disorders.
