Office
of Clinical Research
The Office of Clinical Research (OCR)
serves as a centralized resource to facilitate the development , conduct,
quality assurance monitoring and compliance with regulatory agency
requirements of clinical/research trials at Maine Medical Center (MMC).
The office is a "One Stop Shop" designed to provide support
for clinical research studies initiated by MMC investigators, as well
as industrially sponsored clinical trials and cooperative group studies.
Institutional
Review Board (IRB)
The IRB reviews and oversees research to ensure that it
meets well established ethical principles and that it complies with
federal regulations that pertain to human
subject protection, as well as any other pertinent institutional,
federal or state regulations and guidelines.
Office
of Technology Transfer
The
Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) facilitates the practical application
of knowledge by protecting, marketing, and negotiating the sale
of rights of commercially viable intellectual property to partners
that can bring the property to market.
International Office
The International Office provides immigration and advisory services
to international students and scholars, and assists in expanding
the international learning opportunities at MMCRI. The Office plays
a key role in promoting Maine Medical Center Research Institute nationally
and internationally.
Institutional
Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
The Maine Medical Center Institutional Animal Care and
Use Committee (IACUC) is a standing committee that reviews research
and other activities involving animals to ensure that they are justified
by their benefits and minimize any animal pain or suffering. Maine
Medical Center staff or attending physicians using animals in biomedical
research or teaching must have IACUC approval to do so.
Grants
and Contracts Office
The Grants and Contracts Office is responsible for coordinating
the internal institutional administrative review and processing
for all (1) clinical study contract agreements with industry
(i.e. pharmaceutical) sponsors, and (2) internal and external
research grant application submissions.
